On Friday, our neighbor across the street (Kenny and his wife, Carmen, live here permanently) invited Jan and Ken and us over for homemade gumbo (Louisiana style compliments of Kenny’s sister, Theresa who was visiting with her family.) It ended up being half the neighborhood and a great time was had by all. The gumbo was excellent, too!
Saturday, Theresa told Kenny she was done cooking and Carmen had to work, so Kenny and Jerry bought two huge brisket pieces and used his smoker to make delicious dinner. We had homemade potato salad, baked beans and my special kahlua chocolate cake for dinner. Oink oink!
By Sunday, I told Jerry I needed a day of rest and we mostly vegged and relaxed. I’ve been doing some genealogy organization and did some of that, too.
Monday, I did small pork and beef roasts in the crockpot with carrots. We had a happy hour with 4 other couples as a farewell to one couple who left our area for the winter. Had Ken and Jan over for dinner. It was nice enough again to eat outside. Love it! Tuesday, they had another couple come visit for a few days.
Yesterday, we went with Ken, Jan, their friends Don and Donna to Gruene, TX (about 30 min. away) for lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, The Gristmill. It is really an old mill with lots of different rooms, huge beams, huge fireplace, etc. Wonderful German food if that’s what you want…or lots of other choices. Wandered next door to Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in TX. Fun to view all the pix on the walls of those who have played there…big names such as Willie Nelson, etc.
Jan and I have walked our 2.6 miles almost every day…about 18 minute miles, so that’s not too bad, I guess. Glad for the exercise. Glad the cold snap has gone east. We’re to have weather in the 70’s through the weekend. Yippee! Take care ya'all and let us hear from you!
