2013 June 7-13

Sunday, June 9, we trucked to Roseburg, a larger town 14 miles away.  Went to Fred Meyer to buy round hanging terra cotta plastic pots x 2.  Purchased enough flowers to fill one and three herbs for the other…chose cilantro, basil and rosemary.  Yummm.  Filled up with fuel for tomorrow’s drive and grabbed some grub so we could be back in time to go to the advertised ice cream social at the clubhouse.  Bummed because when we got there, we were told, “oh lit was changed to 3 PM.”  Egads…why no sign out on the board where they post the day’s activities as you drive into the park!  Oh well, calories not ingested!  LOL  Went home and had a beer instead!

Monday, June 10, traveled from Sutherlin to Eugene/Springfield.  Settled in at the Springfield Elks, which boasts “friendliest lodge” – NOT.  While there, went to Verizon on Tuesday and bought Jerry a Galaxy Note 10.1 and a Jetpak, which is much faster than our Palm Pixies.  We will have more data usage and Jerry will be able to view his U-Tube clips.  Has been a huge learning curve but we’re getting it figured out.  Love the 4G fast connection!

Asked for recommendation of where to eat since it was 6 pm when we got all the Verizon folderol completed.  Our wonderful salesman, Eric, suggested Bier Stein.  (Eric sure seemed to have his act together.  College grad, former Best Buy Employee, makes his own bread, loves to cook, especially German dishes and travels frequently to Europe!)  Wow.

Found the Beer Stein and were so pleased!  The dark beer was wonderful and our sandwiches were awesome.  Jerry had a Reuben on rye and I had the grilled chicken, pesto, roasted red peppers and asiago cheese was to die for!  Would like to import this restaurant to Davenport!

Tuesday, June 11, went to Best Buy to get a cover for Jerry’s Galaxy and I got a Kindle Paperwhite to read books on and a cover for it!  Egads…get us out of this town so we don’t spend any more money!  LOL.  At least we’re spending it on something fun and not for repairs!  (Knock on wood.)

Thursday, June 13, woke up to rain and chill, but by noon it has cleared off and rain stopped, so packed up and traveled to Bend.   Wow.  Saw another covered bridge.  Beautiful.

Had to take the long route north and east as McKenzie Pass closed due to snow!

Settled in at the Bend Elks (luckily got the last of 8 hookup spots.)  Checked in with cousins, Art, his daughter, Vikki and her hubby Terry.  Invited us to happy hour, pool and dinner!  Like.  We had great beer/wine, fresh salsa and chips and two interesting pool games!  (I don’t think I’ve played pool since I was about 24!)  Had Vikki’s delicious pork chops, roasted red peppers, mashed potatoes and salad!  Gourmet dining at Rawhide Estates!

Beautiful sunny day here in bend (Friday the 14th).  Here’s a view of the mountains to the north as viewed from our RV and our parking spot here.  Had to angle in weirdly in order to avoid the bush when we put our back door down to unload the BMW.
