On the road again – north to Oregon! Through the Redwood National and State Forests. We no sooner saw signs to watch for Elk and we spotted 4 does in a yard alongside the road – munching away on the grasses. Then we climb to 1500’ in dense forest – no civilization around. Follow the Klamath River for a bit – pix below. See a sign for salmon jerky – never heard of it, but bet it is great!
After a brief look at the Del Norte Redwoods, we arrive in Crescent City and stop along the beach to stretch our legs and smell the wonderful ocean scents. Fueled up at $3.97/gal – better than we’ve been paying!
They value their workers in Crescent City!
We leave 101 in Crescent City and follow Hwy 30 for a bit – through the Jedediah Smith Redwoods Forest and then onto Hwy 199 where we travel through the Smith River Rec Area – Middle Fork. There are lots of places along this highway to pull out and park and look at the rushing Smith River. Amazing! With all of the twisty-turny roads we’ve been on we decide to spend the night here. We get out of the truck and follow a short path to the river’s edge – yup we can park our chairs here and relax. As we’re walking back to the truck, a mama duck and 5 ducklings swim by. Didn’t have my camera or my phone with me – darn!
No setup needed, so we grab the beer, Loleta (near Eureka) cheese curds and some crackers along with our chairs and head back down to the river’s edge. Ahhhhh. we haven’t had the opportunity to do this since Red Lodge MT last July!
I think we probably sat there for 1-1/2 hrs to enjoy the sights and sounds of the river and the waterfall. Hope you enjoy the pix below as much as I enjoyed playing around with the camera for different variations in sunlight, zoom in and out and camera angles.
The shadows on this tree trunk make it look crooked!
A peaceful evening listening to the creek…and cooled off nicely for sleeping! So glad to have the generator going for the microwave!
